Sports Information for Incoming Freshmen

Welcome to Christian Brothers High School., where we have a proud tradition in Athletics.  At CBHS we expect our athletes, coaches and fans to represent our Christian Brothers community by displaying the highest standards of sportsmanship and self-discipline. The following information will help you prepare for the Fall Sports Season at CBHS.  We hope your participation in CBHS Athletics will be a great experience.

Get a Physical

Students must have a physical to enroll in school and to begin practice. Any physical dated after February 1, 2014 is acceptable for the 2014-15 school year and all sports seasons. Your son must use this required Physical Form when seeing his doctor. The form is a multi-page document that also includes a Parental Consent form.

Concussion Form

Effective January 1, 2014, the State of Tennessee requires that school and community organizations sponsoring youth athletic activities establish guidelines to inform and educate coaches, youth athletes and other adults involved in youth athletics about the nature, risk and symptoms of concussion/head injury. CBHS Athletes and their Parents are required to read, sign and return the Concussion form. Turn in this form to his Coach or have your son bring it with him on his first day of practice.

TSSAA  "Dead Period"

The TSSAA Dead Period is June 22, 2014 through July 5, 2014. No coaching, observing, or other contact between coach and players in sport involved. No practices, open facilities, or weight training/conditioning are permitted. The Dead Period is observed by all TSSAA Sports and all TSSAA Schools.

Practice Schedules

The TSSAA date for Golf practice to begin is July 7, 2014. Football may begin practice in helmets and shoulder pads on July 21, 2014, and can practice in full pads on July 28th. Cross Country may begin official practice on July 28, 2014. There are no “cuts” in Football and Cross Country (everyone makes the team). There are try-outs for Golf, and athletes are not guaranteed to make the team.

CBHS Camps

There are no camps or clinics that your son MUST attend during the summer. CBHS does offer a wide range of summer camps to our incoming freshmen as well as younger students. A full list of camps and contact information can be found on the Summer Camps section of the CBHS website.

Fall Sports Schedules

Beginning July 1, all Fall Sport schedules will be available on the school website.  To access, just click on the individual sport, and then click your level. Other sports schedules will be posted as they become available.

  • All incoming 9th graders are encouraged to play Freshman football, regardless of size, ability, or experience.  We do not cut players in our freshman football program; we simply ask that our student-athletes maintain program GPA standards and represent CBHS with character and integrity.

  • Please refer to the FOOTBALL section of the CBHS website for practice schedule and other details.

  • The Christian Brothers Golf Team carries 12 members.  Four team members have already qualified for the 2015 season.

  • Traditionally, there are two teams (Varsity and JV) each with a roster of about 20 players. If an incoming Freshman class has a high number of talented players, we sometimes have second JV team of all Freshmen. (We have kept as few as 7 Freshmen and as many as 19, depending on the pool of talent.)

  • Try-outs for the Spring team are held toward the end of July. The time and date will be posted on the website at a later time.

  • The Varsity Team typically plays 40 or more games every Spring. JV plays between 30-35 games during the same time.

  • No fees are charged for playing in the Spring Season. All travel is covered, but players are responsible for the cost of their meals for all non-State Tournament trips.

  • Every player on a Spring team is guaranteed a position on one of the 2 Summer teams – also at no cost to the player.

  • All players are encouraged to play multiple sports at CBHS. Athletes who play baseball only will begin intensive weight and conditioning training after Labor Day.

  • All players are expected to give their best Academic effort, and they are expected to “Do the Right Thing” on and off the field at all times.

  • Parents are expected to assist at all games in various ways. Sign-up sheets are always available and everyone does an equal amount of work.
