Obituary for Dean George Pratt, 1947 - 2018

George J. Pratt, Jr.
Memphis, TN

George J. Pratt, Jr. June 1947 – January 2, 2018, Dean Emeritus, Christian Brothers High School passed peacefully January 2, 2018 in his home.

He was one of four children born to the late George and Dorothy Pratt in Palestine, Texas. George was a 1965 graduate of Christian Brothers High School and a 1970 graduate of Memphis State University. George graduated from CBHS in 1965, following in his father, George Pratt, Sr's (1936) footsteps. His brothers, Dr. Tom Pratt (1967) and Malcolm Pratt (1969), also graduated from CBHS while his sister, Diane Pratt Hudson, was a 1959 graduate of St. Agnes Academy. His two sons were also CBHS graduates-Chris (1991) and Michael (1993). Last year he was proud to graduate his grandson, Christopher Pratt (2017), and was looking forward to another grandson, Hunter Pratt, entering the CBHS community in the fall of 2018.

His loving partner in all things, Anne Ribbeck Pratt, remains to cherish his memory and the gift of family they built throughout their lives together. They were married in 1970 at St. Louis Catholic Church and have been an active part of that community during all those years. In addition to his sons, George and Anne have a daughter, Dana Pratt Patterson (St. Agnes 1999). Those three children were his greatest joy, and he was never happier than when all his family spent time together golfing, hanging out in the Gulf of Mexico, or just barbecuing in the backyard. George and Anne's children introduced 8 grandchildren to further enrich George's life. Chris and Carly (Christopher, Chace, Chloe), Michael and Joli (Hunter, Emma), and Dana and Sam (Grady, George, Anna) all have followed "Poppy's" example of being an active member of their community. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved and enjoyed being with "Uncle George" and extended family and friends who have always been a part of the Pratt family gatherings.

George touched the lives of many people in his 46 years of coaching, teaching, and administration at Christian Brothers High School. His dedication to the school was second only to his love and dedication to his family. George was a beloved and respected mentor to thousands of boys and their families. He was always there with kindness, concern, compassion, fairness, and a little touch of sarcasm for everyone. His footprints will always be there to guide those that were his students and will forever be "Brother's Boys".

Join the family in his visitation on Friday, January 5th at St. Louis Catholic Church (203 S. White Station Rd) from 5-7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6th at St. Louis Catholic Church followed by a private burial. A reception will follow the Mass in Heffernan Hall at CBHS (5900 Walnut Grove Road).

Donations should be made to CBHS, CBHS Hudson-Pratt Scholarship Fund, or St. Louis Catholic Church.
